Will this work in crossfire?

Thread Starter
I bought this graphics card back in February when I upgraded my graphics card. Now, I want to crossfire with another one, however, they don't sell that brand anymore (at least not cheaply). I can get this though I want to know if it will work. It seems like it should, though I would like to be sure first since it's built differently. They're both ASUS "re-branded" (I guess that's the right word) so I believe they would work.

Also, there's no room for me to put 2 cards onto my motherboard for some reason so I'm wondering if there was something that I could use to connect them to the PCI port. Here is my motherboard that I have - what I'm worried about is if there is an extension for it then the mini-PCI port will get in the way.

Yes both of those cards will work in crossfire buy they only way will be to put each one in the in a PCI-E port, no workarounds for that. Im guessing they wont fit because of the fan sizes, you could get a water loop for them and that would allow you to fit them in.

They should work fine together. Is there a reason you want that particular 3-slot Asus card?

You can work around it easily. If both cards have a triple slot cooler, one will need a new cooler (aftermarket coolers are easy to find online), then put the other on the bottom. It should be easily doable, just might take some warranty-breaking and elbow-grease.

Those two cards will be awefully close to each other. But they should work. I would not get the 3 slot ASUS card (the second one), but get something thinner - maybe a MSI twin froz II or III or some other brand. As long as they are HD 6950, they will crossfire - just make sure to get the 2 GB version. Also, make sure to stick a side fan - a good one - on that case. You will need it else temps will be too high.

Only one card has a three slot cooler. Put the original card in the first beige slot and the new card in the second.

Ok, thanks guys. And the reason why I'm looking at the triple card is because Asus manufacture overclocks it and they'd be the same. Also, will a 650W PSU be fine or should I upgrade it? I have 2HDDs, 1 drive (other one broke), and this would make 2 graphics cards.

Save you're money and get a different brand. It'll work just as well. Just make sure it's a 6950 2gb.

Your psu will be fine.

I have two 6950's, and I pull a little over 400 watts from the wall while gaming. You'll pull a little more because you're running x58, but not more than 650.
