I wrapped things up last night...hahaha I love puns...and put the case-covers on. Last things I did was replace the two fans that I stole from the side panel under the radiator with the clear-red ones. I think it looks much better although still not pleased with the side fans blocking so much of the view. WC'ing the GPUs is the way to go but that will have to wait.

Here's a snap of the new fans.

ATLB-27.JPG

The build is not exactly finished (may never be truly finished) since I still have not even connected the side fans to a power source. I'm trying to decide how to manage the wires that will be needed for that. Do they make a coiled wire kit (like an old-school telephone handset) that I can use?

So I need to connect the side fans, and next Monday my 4" CCFLs will arrive, the UV-LEDs work well but the glow is directional with only the one. For now I'm going to stop messing with it and actually use the dang PC...lol.

Regarding the sleeving and molex connectors...it is really pretty easy (although sleeving anything that has the connectors on it could be a completely different story, I always cut off the connectors). Here's what I did...

Remove the connectors, cut them if you do not intend to re-use the connectors due to splicing or converting, or just extract the pins from the plastic if you do intend to use the connectors. The only connectors I left on it were the ones for the on-board USB and the on-board pins like power/reset/HDD-LED/etc. If you intend to reuse the connectors (old style white Molex and the fan-type 3-pin/4-pin connectors are easy to reattach) then leave the crimped metal on the ends of the wires as seen here.

ATLB-20.JPG

Note how the sleeve looks fat? I have scrunched it (a technical term) up high to work on the ends and retained with a zip-tie, there's enough sleeve to extend a few inches past the splice.

I then cut the wires to make them all the same length and twisted them together as shown here.

ATLB-22.JPG

Slide a piece of shrink-wrap over the ends, splice in the new wire with connector (I use a tiny bit of solder here to make sure things don't go loose later), heat the shrinkwrap, and remove the zip-tie to release the sleeve and heat the shrinkwrap around the sleeve for a factory appearance. Note, the sleeving WILL melt too, so keep your heat gun at a safe distance!

Being a dumbass I forgot to take a picture of these steps, sorry.

I used the sleeving for everything that didn't already have a sleeve, I ignored the PSU. The red fans wires are not sleeved either since they were at least pretty. I may come back to those later, for now they are powered off the MB, since I was annoyed by the POST warnings about CPU fan not being detected...I'm so lazy. Here's a pic of the case wiring in sleeves, there are three separate ones there, the front-panel USB got it's own, the MB connectors got their own (since they connect to a different part of the MB, and the fanbays got their own.

ATLB-24.JPG

So for the next few days I'm gonna just play. To get a good picture in a low light setting I'm going to need to set up a tripod> I like the idea of allowing a video, I've no experience filing and posting those but I'm sure I can figure it out. Here's the blurry versions.

ATLB-25.JPG

See the big dark area where the side fans block the view? Definitely not happy with that but the GPU will need them before I do any long gaming sessions.

ATLB-26.JPG

And one last one with the flash.

Last spam for today.

One thing I am very unhappy with is the PSU that came with my "combo" kit, it is not the modular style. To be honest I didn't know they made 900W "Gamer edition" PSUs that were not, the last 3 or 4 PSUs I've had were all modular and I just assumed that is where the industry was by now.

Bottom line is I've got a shedload of extra cabling to deal with and cable management is (in my opinion) the worst thing about the Lanboy. Does anyone know if it is possible to just cut off any wires that are not needed? Of course I'd fully insulate the ends. I know it would void any warranty, adding WC to a GPU does that as well. But I am willing to forgo any warranty If I can ditch all that extra wire!

Now, how big is it, does the cooler fit in perfectly?

I have a Yellow Lanboy air, with a Asus Crosshair IV motherboard

Starting with it now.. Tomorrow I have nothing to do. I'll try to finish WC so I can start the leak-test for 24-48 hrs.

adamski, is that thing under your door a lock?

edbert, edbert, edbert..... That was a lot of reading for me lachen.gif I don't have much to say but a few things.

I know the side fans are a pain. I used Scythe Slipstream fans on mine. I used a y splitter and plugged them into my motherboard. I took the side panel off when I did not need them.

As for the extra cables on that PSU, I would not cut them myself. Can you stuff them into the crevace on the side of the PSU in between the back panel and the PSU? Tie them up nicely, and they are out of the way so the cables you do need to manage can be the only ones behind the board.

Lastly, who needs a tripod? Set the camera on a chair, use books, a bar stool... Etc.

Hello people of the Lanboy Air case Club smile.gif
I have had the case for some time now I started customizing the case and making it into a tank for a mineral oil immersed PC, Honestly I'm confused and not sure if I should go through with it.
basically I wanted to get a MB tray and insert it from above and keep the hard drive and optical drives where they are ( with extra long wiring if necessary) here is a pic of what I came up with the plexiglass didn't work, so before investing more $$ in this case I would like to hear your thoughts.....how crazy is the idea .
Thanks in advance
Jad
