E8400 to i5 2500K

Thread Starter
Hey guys

pretty much all I do is gaming, since a friend gave me a DP67BG from Intel, I was planning on getting

Intel Core i5 2500K
G.skill 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHZ
GTX 560Ti

Should I spend the money and do the upgrade or any suggestion, all I have to spend is max $500.

Thanks in advance !!!!

I will be upgrading from what I have on my signature.

Yes, if you have the money. It will make a world of difference VS that E8400.

Definitely upgrade. Will make a world of difference.

I went from a Q6600 to a 2500k and love it.

I would just go for it as the E8400 and DDR2 Ram still worth quite bit of money. You can always sell it on ebay and then get some back. True that the longer you wait, the better/faster hardware you can get, but at the same time your E8400 and DDR2 RAM are losing value over time. I went from E8500 4.2 to a 2500k 4.2 and I was happy with it.

Definitely a solid upgrade. You'll max just about anything fluidly at 1080p. Not entirely sure how great that Intel branded board is. But even at stock, the 2500k will walk all over your e8400.

I say do it.

spend the entire $500 towards a video card, especially if gaming is the only thing you do!

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/t...2100-tested/20

http://www.anandtech.com/show/2721/9

You can see from the above that the difference between a 2500k and a e8400 is rather small for the amount of money you'll have to spend.

Fallout 3: 87.4 fps VS 90.3 fps
L4D: 117 fps vs 142.7 fps
Farcry 2: 45.3 fps vs 78.9 fps (farcry 2 and GTA 4 are like the only games where quad > dual)
crysis warhead: 79.8 fps vs 91.6 fps

So yeah, the 2500k is obviously better but, but I don't think it's $300+ better (cpu mobo ram). On the other hand, I think you'd see a bigger jump overall if you got a GTX 570 or 580 instead of the 560.
