i7 930 OC Issues

Thread Starter
Hey everyone,

So I've read some guides in the past to try and OC my i7 930 but it doesn't seem to want to break 3.5 GHz; I figure I doing something wrong.

I defaulted my bios settings, and what I'd like to do is start from scratch and ask everyone on here for help.

My guess is I missed something key that was preventing my 930 to get anywhere close to 4.0 GHz.

I've never asked for help when overclocking, so if there's any additional information that I can provide you with, please let me know.

Thanks!

Disable turbo, c1e and all power saving features. Run 21x on multi, set RAM to 1600Khz and 1.6v. Use 1.35v on vcore, all other settings on auto for now and let her rip.

Also, post all your system specs on your Sig. Keep load temps 80 ish or under. I got 4.5Ghz stable on great custom water but run 4.3GHz daily at 1.38v on vcore.

I'm going to try this out later today. Been so busy cooking dinner and drinking beer that I totally forgot I was trying to overclock my CPU. XD

Well you have some priorities straight. It goes like this;

Beer>overclocking>cooking>peeing

Kinda like a watercooling loop

Turn off all the power saving features (speedstep, C1E etc. Google them if you're not sure which ones). Set the multiplier to x21, BCLK to 190, vcore to ~1.30v and then tweak from there.

Make sure the memory divider keeps your memory running in spec. That is, if you have 1600MHz CAS9 memory, at a BCLK of 190 the memory will have a few options to run at. Should be something like 1900MHz, 1520MHz and 1140MHz or something like that. So if you have memory rated for 1600MHz at CAS9 (9-9-9-24 timings) then put the memory to the 1520MHz and maybe tighten the timings slightly to say (8-9-8-22). Just to make sure your memory is running within spec.

So I did the following:

Multiplier x21
BCLK 191
vcore 1.35
and i think my memory is at 1520MHz.
Disabled Speedstep
Disabled C1E Support
Disabled Spread Spectrum

As for the timings, I have noooo idea where or how do to memory timing. If it's something that I seriously need to do, what I can do is take the time to type out my memory timing settings and post them on here.

Oh also, Should I be running some kind of stress test thing to determine whether or not these current settings are stable enough? Something like Prime95?

Thanks so much guys!

haha, oh boy

so i went and played tf2 for about 5 minutes or so and BSOD'd.

Should I be lowering my BCLK?

So I went ahead and ran Prime95. It was fine for about 5 minutes or so, then BSOD'd again giving me the 124 error.
