Anyway, so now I've had it and I'm pulling it all out except the SSD and optical drive. I just reset the BIOS to factory so I can start fresh. My intentions:

- Boot into BIOS.
- Verify the SSD drive shows up and then switch the SATA controller to AHCI mode.
- Boot from Windows 7 dvd and install Windows.
- Download Intel Rapid Storage Technology, install, and reboot.

I'll post results of how the reboot goes (as for the hang issue), and see how Windows is registering the drive (SSD or not).

I'll also check the ASUS site against my local copies and download any updates. Thanks for the help. Any other suggestions to get this thing up and purrrrring?
Id suggest you clean erase before you reinstall, you wont get it running its best if you dont. I use Parted Magic its a doddle and writes 0's to whole drive, or it will use the the drives internal erase. A PDF guide is here. Also choose option 4 (Alternate graphical server) rather than 1(the default) as sometimes with some graphics cards it boots the cd out and u just get a blank screen. This wont happen with option 4.

Also hot plug your ssd AFTER Parted magic has loaded, this stops the drive being placed in frozen mode

Heres a link to the PDF http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90648

The whole operation should only take about five minutes....

have you tried it? basically i updated my Jmicron controller to new version and then when I restarted my pc, it hangs on windows logo screen.

Hence, the solution, what I did is uninstall J-micron , restart my pc, and boom

basically windows 7 is smart enough to automatically install any missing driver to the one that suitable for its need. maybe our problem is not identical if this doesnt solve your problem

Thread Starter
lotdash0t, I hadn't updated my controller, so that's why I was asking about uninstalling it. Since you updated it, my guess is that uninstalling it simply reverted it back to factory.

But I'm up and going guys.....so far. I followed most of the steps listed here and everything seems to be running fine. I haven't reconnected my hdd drive yet, but I can't see that causing an issue. Now I just have to rip my 500 bd movie collection, and install my ceton tuner......

Thanks a lot for the help!

I just got in the same corner last week.Install win7 when the HDD was set as IDE and then entered BIOS, set HDD to RAID, restarted, when the Windows7 loading logo appeared, it restarted again. Meanwhile, I fixed it by reinstalled win7-64bit after set HDD to RAID in BIOS.
