What's the role of Network Admins and System Admins?

Thread Starter
To my understanding:

Network Admins deal with the Network.
System Admins deal with Servers.

Is this correct? If it is, why do some employers want IT guys to do everything? Is it better to work on Networks and Server, or stick to one?

Depends on the size of the company and the skill level and experience of the person performing the job. I would think there's a lot of pressure involved as you got 2 enemies. One from outside evil sources and 1 from inside employees doing stupid things just to get onto facebook putting it all at risk to which the admins have to answer to when the dung hits the fan.

I've had a ton of interviews for jobs and it's interesting to see how it works.

They can all be different or they can all be the same. Some places have separate people positions for the network and server administration and then some have the same position for both.

I was talking with one of my professors from college and from what he's seen (and myself, too) it seems that more people are getting positions in a sytem administration type of job. Reason? Most places already have existing networks ... servers need more maintenance and upgrades than a network.
