Yeah, that would be great Modest Mouse! I think I'll go with a fan controller, any quiet fans that you would recommend to go with it?
Also, I have a monitor which is advertised as being 120hz and have an XFX R7970. They are connected with a dual-link DVI cable but still Windows says the max I can go to is 60hz? Any ideas why? thumb.gif

I believe you can get some 7v adapter/splitters. They basically connect to a molex and as far as I know the keep the fans running at 1400 RPM.

Correct me if im wrong lol

@ Kieran

http://www.overclock.net/t/1274407/fans-the-most-complete-and-comprehensive-array-of-tests-and-benchmarks is one of the best all in one fan breakdowns. It doesn't have all of them, waaaay to many out there, but the list is comprised of the some of the best you'll find. I'll let you know how the PWM tests go if I get to it. I've got some work to do on a house I'm rehabbing to sell and it's supposed to be nice out this weekend so that might screw with the wasting my weekend playing with the computer box plans mad.gif

As to the monitor I believe your graphics card software (i.e. Afterburner, CCC, Trixx, etc.) would be where you'd change the refresh rate? Not totally sure on that one but I seem to remember coming across it under Catalyst settings for my 6850's. You'd have to confirm that from someone who knows a bit more about that but it could be a place to start anyway.

Modest Mouse,

Thanks for the reply. I looked in CCC and is says the max I can go to is still 60hz? Anyway, thanks for the link you sent me, it was very interesting. Also, my GPU seems to get very, very hot and also noisy when I go into games. The temps go as high as 90C and the fans on it sound like a jet engine. I've tried to use MSI Afterburner but the card still overheats even when the fan speed is set really high and really loud. I can't hear the game unless I use a headset, that's how loud it is.

You might want to check and see if you can find a monitor driver for your specific monitor. That may help. Also you might want to check and make sure that it's true 120hz, some monitors/TVs actually use internal hardware to fake 120hz. Basically all they do is double the frames that you see within the monitor, usually those are advertised as higher than 120hz though, like 240hz etc. That means that they're not capable of true 120hz or 3d gaming/movies. At least from my understanding when I looked into it a while ago. But that was also years ago so who knows.

Kieran,

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1666650 Did a little poking around and thought this might help with your display rates. Couple of things to check and maybe tweak to achieve the 120MHz you're looking for.

As to the card getting that hot...now this is just my opinion...it's definitely on the high side. I wouldn't say you're going to nuke it but from what I've read normal range under load (i.e. gaming or rendering video) should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 60c - 80c. Can you post a pic of your rig possibly with your airflow diagrammed? Just something simple like paint program with an arrow line indicating intake or exhaust for fans. One thing that could lead to it getting toasty is disrupted airflow by wiring or turbulent airflow not exiting the case properly. I have an ASUS Xonar DG sound card that sits pretty tight under my second 6850 and it definitely disrupts the heatsink fan from pulling cool air. I had to mount another 120mm fan inside my case on top of my PSU cover to push cool air in the gap. It lowered my CPU temp considerably. Food for thought...speaking of which me thinks it's time to eat. Hope this helps you some.

Hey guys. I've asked elsewhere, but I'm feeling overwhelmed and under apt right now, so I thought I'd pose this to you guys as well.

I asked this over 24 hrs. ago in the Gigabyte Z77X thread, then posted a thread of my own here, but as yet have not been able to correct my issue.

"I'm scratching my head here... When I boot up (UD5H), the boot splash screen is wonky. Not messed up, just too big for the screen (can't see anything but the center), and when I hit Del, the screen goes blank, and nothing happens (visually). It just stays that way. I just updated the Intel graphics driver, and I currently have no GPU installed. After updating, I rebooted four times, and still the same issue. I noticed before that it took a couple of reboots to correct this, after the initial build (after windows install, after GB driver disk install), I even rolled back the driver in windows, but to no avail. So, I re-installed the latest update, and figured I'd ask here. Any suggestions? It's posting and booting fine - I'm using it to make this post. Confused as heck!"

It was suggested that I remove the battery, as it may be a faulty battery that was corrupting my Bios. No go.

"Well, that didn't go as well as expected - Now I have nothing. Have tried clearing CMOS, unhooking everything, left the battery out for about a half an hour. Code on board is A9 which is "Bios Setup is started". Tried [esc]-[enter]. [esc]-[dn arrow]-[enter], [F7]-[enter], [F7]-[dwn arrow]-[enter]. the screen is black - can't tell what I'm doing, or even if I really am in Bios setup. Monitor is getting signal (indicator led). So now I'm really lost Help?"

So you guys have any suggestions???

Does it do the same thing if you have a gpu installed and your monitor connected to that?
