Can anyone recommend me a good motherboard?

Thread Starter
Basically right now my pc is pretty good but I wanted to add another gpu to run in sli. Apparently I bought the wrong motherboard though - it only supports ati crossfire ¬_¬

I'm looking for a replacement motherboard that will support all of my components and will work well with two GTX 460's in SLI.

Below are my specs:

ASUS M4A88T-V EVO MOTHERBOARD (needs replacing of course... shame really it's a good board)

AMD PHENOM II QUAD CORE x4 965 AM3

NOVATECH GTX 460 1024MB (planning to buy a second one of these, possibly stock overclocked)

NOVATECH 4GB DDR3 2X2GB 1333MHZ

NOVATECH POWERSTATION 750W (supports SLI)

Please give me a hand if you can, I was looking at the ASUS M4N98TD EVO AM3, anyone know if that's any good and if not any better? I'm looking for something under £100 (or $150) that will work with the rest of my components

Also, would it be worth me selling my ati motherboard on the sale board here? Would that be something people would want? xD

Thanks much for reading

Your board has one pci-e 16x slot and one pci-e 4x slot. Its not even ideal for crossfire. all dual 16/8x pci-e enabled amd boards in the 700 and 800 chipset range only natively support crossfire ( sli can be implemented using driver tweaks). For native sli support you need a 990fx or 990gx motherboard. These boards have just been released since the socket am3+ cpus are coming out soon. So you need to check newegg/tigerdirect or local pc stores for motherboards sporting the said chipsets.

Either you can get an 990 board as perviously stated but you can also try to do the SLI hack and run SLI on that board. While one would be 4x it really isn' that much of a difference performance wise and you won't notice any difference except for a few points on vantage.

Grab a motherboard with a Realtek ALC892/889 for good onboard sound.

Get a 900 series board. They officially support SLI and expandability to FX Series processors. Of course, the current ones available (990FX high end) cost $180 or over, be sure to adjust for that with your budget.
