would this keep my NB cool enough?

Thread Starter
i was considering using my thermal Adhesive and permanently gluing this into my NB because the stock one just isn't good enough(its passive)

this is my motherboard

and this is the heatsink i was thinking about using

do you think it will be enough or should i just keep my side panel fan speed up a bit (its a 150CFM so its extremely loud) with the fan on 35% it keeps it cool enough but its really loud it overpowers my surround sound unless i crank it up.

opinions?

It should make a difference, but as an alternative (cheaper, if you have a spare case fan) what I did was to mount a 80mm or 120mm fan to the backside of the optical drive bay and direct the airflow over the NB and SB HS's and could even get a bit of air to hit the dram all in one shot. I started out by mounting it with zip ties to be able to play with direction etc. Internal fan will be make less noise too.

Here's a pic of the finished product, after finding best airflow direction I made a mount and ditched the zip ties. Fan is on the right, 80mm with maybe 30-40cfm. With the side cover fan (like mine) at least you'd still have options. Before going under water I ran a 120mm fan in same location and it was still unnoticeable for sound but what a nice change it temps..

That's my suggestion. Hope it's of some help.

I did something like The Sandman. But i put the fan right on top of the heat sinks. Temp went down about 4c to 6c. I bought the Zalman FB123 CPU Cooling Fan for this but could not get the bracket placement right where i wanted it to go. So i just used the fan.

You got a similar problem i had with not much room, but decided to buy a new NB cooler
Enzotech Forged Copper Northbridge Low-Profile

I cant say much about it till it arives, but one review there its virtually 10c cooler. I got the room to hotglue a small old nb fan i got, so i hope to match that or better. Not quite the solution your probably after but never know. 11.6 mm high

That should work, watercooling the northbridge is not relly needed unless you have a huge overclock and or pulling heavy volts.
