Crossfire, second card not being used?

Thread Starter
Hi Guys,

I've tried searching around the forums but couldn't find any solutions to my problem. I've currently using the rig in my sig (i.e. 2x HD 6950) running catalyst 11.5b.

The problem I'm having is that when I run games or benchmarks (anything for that matter) I can't get my second card to load up. Catalyst shows that the crossfire is enabled and so does GPU-Z but when I run the heaven benchmark or some games the second card just stays at 250/150 MHz and 0.9V but the first card gets fully loaded. I tried doing regedit and turning all the "enableULPS" registries to 0 but it still hasn't solved the issue. Any ideas guys?

Thanks,

Are you running your games/benchmarks in fullscreen?

Crossfire WILL NOT WORK unless the application is in fullscreen.

It's throtting down at least I think it is. Get sapphire trix and overclock it a bit or try OC in CCC.

I had a similar concern a while ago, I thought the second card wasn't enabled or something. Turns out when I'm not in game it pretty much turns off, and just leaves the fan spinning, but when in game it powers up. When I would alt-tab out of game it would go back down to idle speeds. So I opened up catalyst on a second monitor, and booted up a game, and when I was in full screen mode and in the game, it did actually ramp up to full speed and I did see the performance gains. Perhaps this is the same issue?

Did it suddenly stop working, or ... what was the order of events here that led to this point? Have these two cards ever worked properly together in X-fire? Has the board, with other cards, maybe?

Besides making sure you're in full screen, I would also check to make sure that Catalyst A.I. is not Disabled, as that will break Crossfire. Have you tried a different Crossfire bridge at all? If you're using two, try just using one bridge. Try each card individually, using both the slots, make sure they work right individually.

Also, is there any newer bios available for your board from the manufacturer? I know there's been various bugs with the SB boards where they've been released w/o multi-gpu working, and they've needed to get updated BIOS to make it work.

And turn ULPS back on (that'll happen if you just re-install the driver package actually). Whoever told you turn it off in response to this issue was clueless. You don't want it off, and it has nothing to do with Crossfire working or not.

The cards work working before but I reverted back to air cooling for a bit and now I'm back to water cooling since I went from an LGA 1366 to LGA 1155 on P67. I haven't tried updating my bios yet so I'll trying looking for a new bios and go ahead and re-enable ULPS.
