Installing SSD

Thread Starter
Just got a new OCZ Agility 3. New to the SSD scene and I think I'm doing it wrong when it comes to install as the system is running at a snails pace. What do I set the SATA ports to in BIOS(ACHI, IDE). Do I need to download any special drivers? I hooked up the drive like I would a standard HD, booted from my Win7 CD and did a custom install, but the system is SLOOOOOOOOw. No instructions with the drive so I'm a little lost. HELP

I suggest you reinstall Windows, but align the drive correctly following TwoCables' steps here.

And you want to switch from IDE to AHCI BEFORE you install Windows, that'll make it a lot faster.

Good luck!

Make sure your SATA cables are all ok, i always make sure that my boot drive is on SATA 1 and optical drives are on the last 2 SATA channels if possible.
Definitely reinstall windows though, that will help you no end.

Since I already attempted an install will this get rid of the 100MB partition that Win7 created? Also under the instructions I followed when I type list disk I see Disk 0 and Disk 1. Any ideas?

Delete all the partitions on your SSD, and then align.

When I change in the BIOS to IDE mode, everything works fine. Do I install Win7 in IDE mode first then change to ACHI? ALso under disk management it still shows the 100MB System Reserve even after I did the steps from the guide. Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA 890X-UD5

Align? Windows 7 takes care of that already. no need to align.

You have to install the OS while the SATA operation is set to AHCI. You can't switch the operation the AHCI after it has been installed as IDE.

When I installed with AHCI installed the system runs slow as molasses(click on Icon and it takes forever for action to happen). Changed it over to IDE in the BIOS after the install and it runs(point and click)
