Input needed on a gpu buy

Thread Starter
Hello.

I am planning to buy a new pc in a couple months. At the moment i am waiting how bulldozer will perform. In the netherlands some shops have an MSI Radeon 5850 Twin Frozer for sale at 115euros. the cheapest 6850 costs 20euros more.

I know that the 5850 wont be on sale for long cause the similarly priced sapphire xtreme version was sold out quickly.

So my question is should i buy 2x5850 now and have 1 lying in the closet cause my current mobo doesnt support crossfire or wait till i buy a complete pc and then buy 1-2 card(s) depending on the prices in a couple months time.

I'd say you should wait. If you can wait for Bulldozer to come out, CPU prices *might* drop.
By then, I expect a lot of GPU prices to drop as both companies get ready for their next gen releases

GPU prices are dropping all the time, not only that at the end of the year AMD and Nvidia are apparently releasing a new series, so that will lead to further price drops if you can hold on till then.

No point buying hardware to use later, it isn't going to be cheaper.

I would say wait a bit and try to invest in a new rig, with a better CPU As some others have mentioned, the new AMD bulldozer chips might be just your best bet.

If you're still really interested in a GPU upgrade though and you're on a budget, you might want to check out the 6870 at 135 euros here: http://www.alternate.nl/html/product...FC%29/482022/?
