4GB to 8GB, most notable difference in your experiance?

Thread Starter
So, title says it all.

Which applications got the most improvement when you moved from 4GB to 8GB (or 16GB?)

Benches on the net are pretty much out of date, ('09..) so I thought some real life testimonials would help.

Sony Vegas (Anything that encodes videos) and Photoshop etc.
Rainmeter will also become more lightweight if you use it.

In terms of performance, I saw no difference. In terms of how much crap I can have open at one time, the difference was day and night.

Agreed, going from 4gb to 8gb made multi tasking less strenuous on my system, at least that's what it felt like. The difference was noticeable within the first day of use.

I'm currently using 16gb @ 1600mhz Cas9 to eliminate any potential bottlenecks

In before 16gb is overkill: When I've got 10 to 15 sometimes even 20 tabs in Chrome running, a movie on another screen and sometimes the occasional RTS on pause and minimised, thats when 16gb comes in handy.

Why run the risk of having a potential bottleneck by getting 4gb. Just because you wont always use 8gb of memory doesn't mean it wont come in handy, you just wont notice when it does and that's the whole point.

As already said, unless you're encoding or doing photoshop, you won't notice it. Better to spend your money someplace else. I run 8GB+ because of photoshop and no other reason. Nothing else I run even touches above 4Gb.

Edit: might also see a difference in MathCad, AutoCad, etc.

I noticed absolutely no difference in going from 4 to 8.

Your page file would be used less. This will make multi-tasking appear smoother.

Ah, forgot to mention that. I completely eliminated my page file and got 16 GB of space freed up

Tried 8Gb, didn't need it. Went to 4Gb, and it feels like too little

ESPECIALLY MINECRAFT. That game devours RAM for breakfast.

For everyday tasks none, but running After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro. Made a world a difference. I still want 16GB for that though. lol

Running all of those allots me 1GB for other thing, but that's only because I have it set like that.

A 32 bit program can't use more than 2GB. Though it's coded in Java, which is terrible for games.
