My computer's got man-flu...

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I dont know whether I should be concerned or not...

About 2 weeks ago my computer packed it in, saying I couldnt boot into windows because the boot disk didnt exist - or words to that effect. I took out the SSD (64GB OCZ Vertex) and I've been running off windows on my data disk. The SSD cant be seen in the BIOS and it lags the POST massively, all research says the drive is dead so I'm waiting back from OCZ to give me an RMA. I'm in IDE mode, not AHCI mode, I'll change it when I get my SSD back.

It's been fine for a week or more, but once or twice I noticed that windows would freeze up when I logged in. And this morning I had a BSOD on the windows startup screen. Works fine after a restart though.

Should I be worried, is my computer slowly digesting itself? And is there any way to revive the SSD without an RMA?

I'm guessing no to both of these. I suspect the SSD is dead, and I suspect it's just this old creaking Windows.

Cheers OCN thumb.gif

SSD is likely toast... you could reformat it and cross your fingers.

As for the bsods... have your given your computer (especially the heatsinks) a good dusting lately? I often find that helps.

I cant reformat it as I cant even see it in Windows or BIOS. I dont know if I can reflash it with the jumpers on the disk, I may try that when I have time to trawl the OCZ forums.

I havnt, I didn't think it could be related, but it is very dusty. Thanks wink.gif

That would probably fix these OS problems I'm having, though I dont want to reformat - I'd rather wait til I get my SSD back to put the OS back on there.

I've had it 18 months, sounds like a common problem unfortunately...

18 months, and no I havnt - what exactly is that and how can I do it without the SSD being recognised?

all you need is some software and a usb stick:

follow the directions here: http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...o-use-HDDErase

hopefully it works for you

gl

EDIT: so the ssd is not being recognized even if you move it as a non boot drive?
try disconnecting all hard drives except this one then doing the secure erase...

back everything up first of course

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that out and get back to you.

And yeah, it's not recognised in the BIOS or in windows as a boot drive or as a stand-alone drive :/
