For p8p67 pro the manual seems to be telling people to put in RAM by the same colors starting with the blue ones. But when I recently built my new rig with this mobo, I had this similar issue with nothing starting up and the memok light flashing.

The issues aren't the sticks of ram, its the way they are being told to be put in. Seems as though if you want 2 sticks of ram in it you gotta put the 1st one in the blue slot furthest from the HSF and the next one on the black one right next to the blue slot furthest away from the HSF.

I forgot which was A1 B1 etc.. so lets say 1 is the black slot closest to the HSF and 4 is the blue furthest from it, and 0 being the HSF. The ones with [] indicating where the ram is put in.

You have to put them in like this:
(HSF) (DIMM slots)
0 1 2 [3] [4]

While the manual tells you to put them like this:
(HSF) (DIMM slots)
0 1 [2] 3 [4]

Then, unless Asus changed their board design since I bought mine, you would be running in single channel mode. Improper settings with the RAM can prevent you from running double channel (both blue slots: A2/B2). There are at least 5 other reasons why a PC won't boot in double channel mode off the top of my head, so I wouldn't just give up on running in double channel just yet. Your workaround I can see being used as a temporary measure to change settings, but you are cutting your memory throughput in half by doing so.

I always personally start up a system that I have just built by putting in one stick of RAM in the primary slot (A2 in this case) to make sure I don't have any compatibility issues. Once I know my system POSTS correctly and will run, I then add the additional memory sticks and check again. P67 has so many quirky issues when it comes to memory, it took me forever to find memory sticks that were not only compatible with the board, but could also run at 2133Mhz with 4GB sticks and maintain my overclock (Thank you Mushkin).
