So if you plan on multiple-screen gaming, are you better off with the twin-GPU HD6990 or the nVidia equivalent Zotac GTX590?

In some degrees it depends upon which game you want to play as some perform better than others in certain circumstances. However looking at the results in an overall manner we'd definitely suggest plumping for the Zotac GTX590.

In the single card scenarios, either with a single screen or the triple-headed monster, the Zotac comes out on top more often than not, and by quite a margin too.

The new 275 drivers from nVidia deserve special mention as the difference between the results we obtained using the 275.33s and those we saw when we first tested the GTX590 on the 267 ForceWare drivers is just incredible. For example our initial Metro 2033 tests saw 66 FPS, today on the 275s we got 117. Now that's the extreme end of the scale but even so we saw improvements everywhere. It seems nVidia have finally unlocked the insane amounts of power available from the GF110 GPUs.

Wow, i'm more surprised at the increase with the new drivers than anything 66fps to 117fps by anyone's measure is incredible under any circumstance or test.

Although I would still say there are some who cannot wait to mention the memory thing 1.5G vs 3G per GPU...and how this was far short of the really big resolutions where the xfire 6990 cards shine in tests (with Ear protection)

I like what's presented however I cannot justify buying another GTX590 at this time.

I'll wait for the next generation, and consistent reviews before buying, as testers under NDA only serve Nvidia and obviously could not warn us that their cards were hamstrung/xploding...Nvm /rantoff

The new drivers do rock pretty hard.

And all though I agree about NDAs, how many GTX 590 cards have died?

That review is a mess, can't make heads or tails of it.

That M2033 result is definitely screwed up, 117 fps avg at 1200p
What the heck are the settings?

What's up with this?

We know that Crytek didn't do a great job with the optimisation of Crysis Warhead and so it proves here. Despite taking advantage of PhysX we only see a 10 FPS gain on the single card/screen combo, 8 FPS on the triple screen setup.

This review is little odd.

They test the 590SLI but don't compare it to 6990CFX or any other 4 GPU solution for that matter. Then at the end they say 590 SLI, FTW... huh.

Furthermore, on some of their graphs they forget to mark the 590SLI for the single screen config (they mention SLI for the 3 monitor config). I had the look at the graph for a while before I released that they were not reporting that a single zotac 590 was 30 FPS better than the 580SLI in Metro.

Poorly done review is poorly done.

This card will never be a "winning" card imo.

So the GTX 590 has become substantially faster than the 6990 with newer drivers?

With a VRM revision, this card could really shine. Especially when the Ares II is so expensive, not to mention the limited run. The 6990's would still come out on top in insane resolutions (triple 30") where 1.5Gb would choke at higher settings.

The new drivers really make a big gap between the 590 and 6990.
