i7 930 + P6T 4.0 to 4.2 issue

Thread Starter
I've been able to manage to get 4.0GHz fairly easy and felt it was time to slowly step it up a bit..

Current Hardware:
i7 930
P6T
Patriot Extreme Performance Viper II Series DDR3 6GB (3 x 2GB) PC3-12800
Antec 900 Gamer case
Corsair H50 watercooler

Running Maximum IBT it fails after 2nd run...

Current BIOS setting at 4.2 are:
21x200
CPU Volt 1.28750
PLL 1.82
DRAM 1.25

Any help is appreciated!

if you have turbo mode on then youll struggle to get over 4ghz, also PLL doesnt need to be any more than 1.8v for this overclock, in fact its been shown that a PLL under 1.8v can actually improve stability, its one of those voltages that more doesnt mean better. also you should have all the power saving features in the bios disabled such as Virtual tech, C1 state and Speed step. also im pretty sure that your DRAM voltage should be at least 1.5v but no more than 1.65v

No turbo and C1E, virtual tech and speedstep are all disabled.
It really need an increase of DRAM from 1.25 to 1.5? That seems
Like a large increase for a small increase from 4.0 to 4.2 but then
Again I'm no expert lol

Does it seem like its just my DRAM that's kinda off?

I think what you have as DRAM is QPI/VTT. Not sure what your bios calls it, but I doubt your ram voltage is 1.25.

For getting to 4.2, your voltage seems pretty low. Mine takes 1.325 for 4.2 and thats on the low end of most chips I've had.

My BIOS calls it " QPI/DRAM " I just adjusted it to 1.325 and gonna work from there... does the CPU voltage seem like its relatively close @ 1.28750 for 4.2?

Since you are not failing instantly, you are probably not too far away. Just go up one notch at a time and see if it's stable.

You should be ok with the qpi were its at. If you try tighter timings or increased speed, you'll want to bump that up as well.

took me 1.35v on my 920 for 4.2GHz (also on a p6t)
