Synaesthete

Excuse the text at the bottom of the video, that is NOT in the actual game.

Today on my travels, I discovered a game which infuses elements of Dance Dance Revolution, Geometry Wars, and Audiosurf into one little package.

And it's a package that I suggest you all sign for.

It's called Synaesthete.

At first glance, I was reminded of the movie Tron. The game has an intriguing infusion of vector based graphics as well as modern day flashy effects. It's all done in a way to look gorgeous, but not overwhelm you and throw you into a tongue chewing seizure.
That seems to be quite a concern nowadays.

You're a little man(?) whose sole purpose in life is to feel the music. Quite literally. Throughout the numerous stages you're greeted with a lot of bizarre creatures to fend off and an array of weapons. The game has a ton of re playability due to the sheer amount of levels and difficulty settings. Truth be told, this is a game that will keep you entertained for hours. I especially like the quotes that fade in whenever you clear a stage. I could totally see somebody in a Red Bull fueled haze writing those after a good 40 hours of clubbing.

Synaesthete has a really intuitive style of gameplay. Anybody whose played Beatmania (Nerdy obscure game reference), will feel right at home with this. You have three sections on your tracker and each corresponds to a different button on your keyboard/controller. Every block that falls is with the rhythm of the music, so you can't just randomly hit buttons and expect for the best. To add to the challenge, you have to constantly be moving around the arena, dodging enemies and racking up your combos. I found the 360 controller to be perfect for this because of it's analog stick but I didn't try the keyboard controls yet. It feels so satisfying to have your controller rumble in unison with your finely honed skills, truly orgasmic.

A fun and satisfying game that'll keep you busy for days, Synaesthete is definitely worth a shot. Be it in short 20 minute bursts or extended sessions, you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of this little gem.

Game of the <amount of time between frickfrock game posts> Club?

Plays well with a keyboard, IMO. Seriously a great game I can't wait to put more time into.
