let me tell you something, ALL CPUs are bottlenecks in the sense that you are talking about, once we pass the 2600K's etc our high end GPU performance will continue to increase. you should be calling your own CPU a bottle neck your straying off the subject, his system's CPU is not a bottleneck. deal with it

The CPU bottle necks the GPU when it is unable to keep up with the data the GPU is processing.

This can be due to the CPU having to do physics calculations. AI calculations, user input calculations, sending the data to the GPU to render, etc. Now if the CPU is unable to do all of this in "real time" the GPU will be bottlenecked due to it waiting for the CPU to finish its calculations.


In the case of the OP system the GPU is the bottleneck with this game. Every system will have some sort of bottleneck. Be it the HDD, RAM, GPU, CPU, etc. However, the bottleneck in a system is not static. It all depends on what you are doing.

In the case of the OP system the GPU is the bottleneck with this game. Every system will have some sort of bottleneck. Be it the HDD, RAM, GPU, CPU, etc. However, the bottleneck in a system is not static. It all depends on what you are doing.

I dont care what we call it but thats my definition and I think that is what the OP is asking. Is the 9850 lowering the GPus framerates. I think in his particular example, not as the game is highly GPU dependant. In another game such as BF2BC2 maybe it will.

its not a "bottleneck" no, but it may hinder performance in certain circumstances... as any other CPU would. when we go into the league of lower end dual cores on highly CPU intensive games on full settings and high resolutions then we can start talking about bottlenecks
