Acronis or Alternative?

Thread Starter
I am sick of having to reinstall everything on my DAD's computer all the time something goes wrong. I have looked at this software called Acronis. Does anyone here have any experience.

Is it possible that this software can make a restore cd where it reinstalls xp for me and also the previous programs that I had installed at the point which i created the cd's.

What I don't mean is that it creates a seperate partition on my HDD but when you purchase a computer from the stores sometimes you get a master cd where it enables you to do a full cold reset installing xp again and the software that you bought with the computer?

I just don't want to have to keep on installing windows, and then install each and every software seperately over and over again.

Do you guys know what I mean?

With True Image you can store the image anywhere, on CD's/DVD's you may need to span quite a few of them for one image, its just more convenient on a HDD - you've got room for more than 1 image and can set up a backup schedule.

If you did a fresh install and installed the apps\\drivers\\ect you wanted and then made an image and stored that on CD's you could return to that state at any time by wiping the HDD an restoring that image.

If you have a seagate or maxtor drive laying around, plug it in just to get Seagate Discwizard, its basically Acronis but totally free.

Could get a cheap seagate here:

Acronis creates an image - or a clone - of the existing system configuration. You can use this image to recover individual files or restore the entire computer to the exact state it was in when the image was created.

The process does not reinstall Windows or any other software. Instead it recovers the full content of the image onto the hard drive and makes it bootable.

Keep in mind that you will need external storage to store the image on (external hard drive, another computer, etc).

That sounds more like what I need. I want to install office and a few CAD applications which I know for a fact this is definately going to span over about 5 odd dvd's possibley... however atleast everytime i do a restore the applications are installed along with windows.

i just want to pop the cd's in as I would with a windows cd and have everything installed at once.

But what options do I need to select for this, I am thinking to use either a flash drive (something that is about 16gb big to do this).
