I've been meaning to upgrade my headphones for a while but other things kept getting in the way. My current headphones are now sadly dying so I have to man up and upgrade. I would also like to pick up a sound card. Also I'm a noob.
My current system is relatively old, evga 680i board, 8800gtx gfx card etc. I am intending to build a new pc later this year whenever AMD launch their latest. I am currently using Win 7 64bit, Vista 32bit and Ubuntu 64bit.
Oh, I have said my pc is relatively old well my speakers are older (~12years old). I have an Altec Lansing ADA890 4.1 system. I will look in to upgrading these mid next year most likely.
Usage would mainly be broken down as Gaming 40% and Movies 40% and Music 15% and pod-casts and listening to error pings the final 5%.
Gaming would mainly be fps (bf bc2/ cod) and some rpg. Music is totally mixed from metal to classical to blues to indie to vocal but not including any country (other than the man in black). I mean there are limits.
I am also intending to pick up a Zalman Mic 1 as a mic.
Headphones would have to be closed. I'd rather stay married.
Reading Simca's thread Most Commonly Recommended Audio Products makes me think the Titanium HD or the Asus ST would be most suitable (currently both roughly the same price ~£130). I was looking at the Beyerdynamic DT770s. Should I go for the 250 OHM Pro set? I am not sure about the relevance of the impedance and what I will actually hear.
One last thing, would there be any way to connect the sound card to my current speakers (for when the wife heads out ).
So what do you guys think?
Thanks for any help
