PC turns on but does not boot.

Hey guys, this is the computer:

P6NGM-L motherboard (MSI)
E4500 processor
Various ram sticks
500W power supply
A few Sata II hard drives.
9600GT

It turns on, all leds and fans spin, video card spins, but screen is completely black.

Monitor works, just tested with this notebook i'm writing with. Several ram sticks were also tested, in both DIMM slots. Motherboard (with the cpu inside) were stored in their anti static bag for a year, maybe year and half.

Surprisingly, we are both wearing snickers (shoes). However, the computer case (and the CMOS battery) gives me a static shock, while my friend is unaffected.

Computer turned on for a second and shut down an hour ago, it was becuase of a few screws (they were not too tight nor too loose, however, when I removed each except one to hold the motherboard in place, it turned on just fine. IT had happened once already).

We don't have the speaker right now so we can't confirm any beeps.

Any help?

Perhaps there is something wrong with your GPU? Have you tried switching it out?

It has an onboard video card, both give a black screen.

Do you have the 4 or 8 pin CPU power plugged in? Sounds like the symptoms of not having both power plugs going to the motherboard.

Various RAM sticks.. well, there's your problem.

Try booting with one stick, or, an actual matching pair.

Well first thing to do is, stupid although it sounds, check and try a different power cable(wall to PSU). Second, check internal power connections...Check for molex cables that are misaligned.

Give clearing the CMOS a try too.

If that doesn't work unplug everything nonessential. Try to see if it POSTs without CD-ROM, HDD, or any USB devices except the keyboard.

As in, "we tried several different sticks separately, one, by, one, and neither gave any positive result".

Connected things are:

Motherboard 20 plus 4
CPU connector only needs a 4pin
VGA has a 6pin
Only 1 sata II hard drive connected (power and sata cable).

It could a number of potential things. Here's a lil' checklist you could do:

1.) Try booting with 1 RAM stick.

2.) Try reseting the CMOS -

3.) Are you also able to try it with a different graphics card that is similar to the 9800gt?

4.) Have you tried reseating the CPU cooler and the CPU and checking for any loose connections (making sure everything is pushed down, the card, etc)?

We have tried with 3 different sticks, one at a time.

We have reseted the CMOS (removed the battery for 3 minutes, plugged back in)

No other video card around, IGP does not work either

We haven't tested the CPU, I haven't touched since the moment I removed it from my computer and placed it in the anti static bag.

Any other ideas?

You try using a different memory slot?

Try putting it in slot 3, see what happens.
