Overclocking 6950: Many Questions

Thread Starter
Hello, I plan to OC my 6950 but I have some questions/need some advice!
I don't want to do any BIOS flash yet (want to run it for at least 1 month to make sure it's stable, I don't want rma getting denied because of a flashed bios if it dies for a completely different reason)

1. Is it somehow possible to raise the Amd Overdrive limits?
2. Should I Use Trixx or Afterburner (got Sapphire Card)
3. If I use MSI Afterburner I need to remove CCC from autostart right? or should I just disable Amd Overdrive(idk if it lets me oc it with afterburner that way)?
4. What values are considered as a safe 24/7 voltage, core clocks, memory clocks and temperature(I heard 1GHZ core clock can kill a card pretty easyly)?
4.a I don't have a +20% setting anymore if I go with Afterburner, but I suppose handling voltage manually is better, is that true?
5. Is it like CPU ocing? = If I get Artifacts or Crashes increase voltage

non oc questions--
1. If I use crossfire on my mbo its dual 8x PCIe, how bad is this?
2. If I buy a second 1gb, nonref model 6950 can I still crossfire it without negative impacts?(ref 2 gb models prices are getting higher and higher)3. 3. same question as 2. but with a 6970 1gb

other
1. your opinion to my non-flash tactic totest its initial stability?

thats all questions i have for now

thank you in advance, I'll +rep every helpful post

1. Yes but I don't recommend Overdrive.
2. Afterburner is my personal favorite.
3. Just disable AMD Overdrive.
4. That's up to you. I personally don't go over 1200mV
5. Kind of. Raise your voltage to whatever you feel is a safe level. 1175mV seems to be the norm. Raise your core clock by 10MHz at a time and run 10 minutes of some form of test. (Kombuster, Furmark, GPUTool) until you either reach your goal or have problems. If you have problems, raise your voltage and try again or back down 10MHz and stay there. Repeat with memory clock.

That is, of course, the time consuming and VERY safe way of doing things.

1. x8 and x16 is a 2-3FPS difference max.
2. If you buy a 1GB model, then you are completely wasting the 2GB on your first model. Get a 2GB.
3. There are no 6970 1GB models that I am aware of. The 6970 will clock down to whatever speeds you have your 6950 set to as it is the slower card.

1. I don't recommend putting a 6970 Bios on it. Ever. Just unlock your shaders if you can and overclock it yourself.

Hope this helps.
