The only card that really runs the $250-300 price range in AMD is the 6950.

Crossfire some 6850s, beat the 6950, and save some cash.

this is also a good option. 6950 would allow for some more horsepower down the road but 6850s do win that battle if this is a right here right now sort of thing

edit: also the cheapest 6850 cfx combo would be HIS and would run you 320, 300 after rebate.

nah, crossfire 6850s is really not what I'm looking for, because I want to be able to UPgrade it in the future at lowest cost, so really it looks like a single 6950 seems to be my best option right now.

Anyone know of a good brand/model to buy, maybe the one with the highest chance of being unlockable? otherwise, a good solid model with decent aftermarket cooling?

And in that respect, is the IceQ i linked in the first post a good one? I've really only read one review on that series, and I haven't heard anyone's opinion on it.

Like I said, 6950 lightning.

Superb power phasing, overclocking, cooling, and it unlocks!

I couldn't find it on newegg, fry's, or amazon. link to the 6950 lightning please .

I would probably get the twin frozr II OC. the non-OC version is $10 cheaper but the OC version might be binned better(better overclocking) and comes with 3dmark11 advanced...plus it has a $25 MIR, though i always assume i will never get those.

Twin frozr III

I use TFIII and lightning interchangeably, my bad.
