i5 2500k temperature question

Thread Starter
I currently have a stock 2500k not overclocked or anything and its running at about 46c. It has been like that all day and ambient temp is about 75f. Is that too hot? I just installed a fan controller but did not connect the cpu to it, is that a problem?

Thanks

75f is on the hotter side. To me that's way to warm, but I like it to be cooler. I usually try and keep my den as cool as I can get it.. so in the winter I don't use much heat and wear a hoodie. But 65f to me is plenty warm or 70F max for me. It's starting to get real warm in CT lately though, but I will be going under water soon on my Nehalem. In the summer it will always be a great idea to have AC in the same room. With todays graphics cards and all the overclocking these computers can compete with conventional heaters...

Yeah all my other parts are at pretty low temps.

The GPU is 32c, mobo 25c. I will run prime 95, thanks.

my 2600k overclocked to 4.0 runs at 50-55c under 100% load on all cores/threads. Your temps seem a little hot, but of course I have an aftermarket cooler. I definitely recommend getting one.

Yeah. I'm not overclocked at all and am on the stock cooler. Its just weird because yesterday it was at about 30c regularly and ever since I installed the fan controller its been at 45c, even though I did not even plug it into it.

Also right now its been about 10-15min on prime95 and my cpu is at 69c.

Ok well I ran prime 95 for about 20mins and it stayed at 71c for a while so I stopped it because I didn't want it to get to hot, lol. In a bit I'll open my case and make sure no cords are in the way of the cpu and stuff, I just think its odd everything else is running so cool except for it.

Agreed, it seems hot. Wouldn't do anything but stock without a new cooler. The fan is running ok on it with the controller?

Since u didn't plug the cpu fan into controller it shouldn't be causing a problem - try to reseat the cooler, maybe u moved a bit it during the controller/sensor installation.

Honestly, picking up an aftermarket cooler will make a world of difference. A 212+ CM cooler will drop your temps down at least 10C, all for under $30. Also, the large 120mm fan it comes with inside your case will help circulate air, this will further cool your RAM and mobo. With that cooler, you will be much happier and worry-free. I can't recommend it enough.

Also, how are your fans set up in your case? Front/side as intake, rear/top as exhaust? Any areas not getting air in to your proc?

Best of luck, let us know how it goes!
