Overclocking i7-960

Hey all! I'm new to the forum and thought I'd list my specs to see what the best settings for an OC for me might be. Right now I'm just at the stock 3.2ghz, but I wanna bump it up a little. Based on my equipment specs listed below, what's the highest I could go for a safe operating temp and minimal to no crashes?

Asus P6X58D motherboard

Sapphire Vapor-X 5870

Intel Core i7-960

Corsair Dominator 6GB DDR3 1600

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2

Antec 1200 case

Thanks in advance for any help biggrin.gif

80c no higher , 4.2ghz sounds reachable to me .. you will notice nice gains in performance .

5870 should clock close to 1ghz , run that under 80c also .. set up a manual fan profile in msi afterburner to ur likings .

So my cooler is good? How should I adjust my settings in the bios to reach at least 4.0? Overclocking an i7 is a brand new concept to me, though I'd had this for over a year. I'll be building a new system soon with the 2600K sandy bridge, but I wanna get the best out of this set up before I pass it down in favor of an upgrade.

My highest core temp was 60 Celsius after playing SC2.
