OCZ Gamerxtreme 850 NO 8 pin pcie! Help...

Thread Starter
Just got my 580, extremely excited to power it up, but when hooking it up I find that my psu doesn't have an 8 pin pcie, although on the manufacturer website it says 2 6pin 2 6+2 pin, all I have is 4 6 pin pcie, maybe im missing something, although I went 100 times over all the cables and its not there. Help is greatly appreciated!

Well if you have 4x 6Pin then use a 2x 6Pin > 8Pin adapter from the cards bundle..

You have 2 options:-

a. Convert two 4-pin Molex connectors to one 8-pin PCIe connector.

b. Convert two 6-pin PCIe connectors to one 8-pin PCIe connector.

Thanks for the replies, Im aware of the connectors, but the psu spec on the manufacturers site clearly state 4 pcie; 2 - 6 pin; 2 - 6+2pin. All I have is 4 - 6 pin, Cant find the +2

So the 2 little pins aren't dangling around anywhere? Is it possible they were modular and he didnt include them?

The original version was released with two 6-pin and later two 6+2 pins were added for a total of four PCIe connectors. Are you saying you have four 6-pin PCIe? I don't remember those ever being released in that configuration.

The reason is that your Gamexstream 850W is of an older version where all four PCIe connectors are 6-pin. According to OCZ's webpage for this PSU, it states:-
Quote:
Important Note: Effective August 15th, 2008 the GameXstream family of PSU's are shipping with 1 x 6pin and 1 x 6+2 (8pin) PCI-E connectors. The 850W model now has 2 x 6pin and 2 x 6+2 (8pin) PCI-E connectors. If your GXS power supply has a PCI-e connector harness (without the 8pin connector) and you would like to power a GPU that requires the 8pin, please contact our customer support.
This means, a newer version has two 6-pin and two (6+2)-pin connectors.
Perhaps you can contact their customer support to see if they can send you an adapter cable for free?

Thanks for the reply, my version is the latest one, earlier version only had 2 pcie connectors, 1 - 6 pin and 1 - 6 + 2 pin, I have 4 connectors all of them are 6 pin, each labeled pcie 1, 2, 3, 4. I just saw a video of the psu, and pcie 1 and 2 should be 6+2, where as on my version its missing, Ill be contacting OCZ tom. I'm assuming its manufacturers defect since the + 2 are missing, here's the video I'm referring to, rewind to 3:25 -

; I am missing the two +2 pcie that are black wires coming on the side of pci 1 and 2 - 6 pin.

Re-read his comment again.

Your version is an earlier version and not the latest one. That post about having 1 x 6pin and 1 x 6+2pin was only for the ones below the 850w. The 850w has either 4 x 6 pin or 2 x 6pin and 2 x 6+2 pin. Being that you have 4 x 6pin...you have the earlier version. If you want the connectors, contact OCZ or buy them from monoprice or eBay or somewhere.
