Would CF 6870's Bottlebeck my system?

Thread Starter
I am afraid if I upgrade to CF 6870's my CPU might bottleneck my system. Is what I am thinking true?

I really hope not, since I need to upgrade my PSU and MB and I can't afford to buy a Sandy Bridge set right now.

It might, but either way you'll get a performance increase, it just won't be optimal.

You should get enough performance increase to hold you off until Bulldozer comes out. Just get an AM3+ motherboard like the Sabertooth 990FX.

May be pricey, but it's worth it.

Yes will be bottlenecked for sure. Can you get the chip to 4.0 ghz+?

Exactly what Kvjavs said, I had 2 6870s and a 945 at 4.0 and they were held back pretty bad when comparing them to others with 2 6870s and i7's.

You will still get a gain but they wont reach their full potential.

At 1080p on a single LCD you would lose 5 to 7 frames (compared to i7 2600 stock) on a game like Crysis Warhead and the micro-stuttering would be more pronounced. It would still be very smooth game play at the highest possible settings.

For resolutions above 1080p or multiple monitors all bets are off.

There will be some but it won't be observable when you start cranking up all your graphic settings. My Q6600 bottlenecked my 6850 but once I maxed my AA, it became smoother.

It depends upon the game. Some games will be bottlenecked by your CPU. Other games will not be bottlenecked.

Get it around 4ghz and then you should be fine in Xfire

Bottlenecking gets thrown around too much with regards to CPU's. You will notice a big performance increase with CF 6870's, you will also notice an increase if you can get that CPU to about 4ghz. You will notice a bigger increase if you get a sandy bridge.

You can still expect excellent CF performance from your current CPU.
