You can try downloading it via torrent if your browsers are being uncooperative.

I don't think it will be that huge of a difference but Lubuntu should be "faster".

ok well i got it up in the boot thing then i say install lubuntu it goes to a full black page with a line like this (_) that blinks in the top left. Ive only left it at a max of 5 minutes just because. Should i leave it like that over night and hope for the best? Will a simple format of windows, not going to keep it, help? please help!

The only thing the temporary windows install will do is temporarily install windows on the machine.

It seems that Lubuntu doesn't have an alternate install CD, So... Try this distribution

ok im going to try that and openSUSE so im trying to burn it to a CD drive and it says drive needs to reload the media to return to proper status

To be able boot off a USB stick, you need to "burn" it to the stick using "UNetbootin" or "Live Linux USB Creater" (google them, I'd recommend the latter)

For a distro, OpenSUSE is a good starter, but could be a bit heavy for that system. You could try Linux Mint XFCE, or PCLinuxOS
