Muddy sound with headphones

Thread Starter
Maybe I have been spoiled by the sound quality of my Sennheiser IE8s and Cowon S9, but when I plug in the IE8s to my z5300e's volume controller, the sound become very muddy and unclear. When I plug the IE8s into the front audio connector, it sounds a lot clearer but only when the static noise isn't drowning out the music.

Since I rarely rarely use headphones on this computer, this doesn't bother me too much but I would like to know what is causing this problem for those few times I have my IE8s plugged in.

Does your Z5300 controller have any form of EQ or bass boost? Try setting that to flat if there is perhaps?

Sub: a notch less than half way
Fader: middle
Center: middle
matrix: off

But all of those things get disabled when I switch to headphone mode in the Creative/Prelude software. No EQ, EAX, CMSS, Crystalcrap, or SVM.

I just compared it to my Sony FW laptop, and it sounds so much better on my desktop.

The S9 spoiled me

Try plugging it directly into your sound card. If your problems persist, then that's your problem.

If not, then perhaps the sound card does not work through your front panel...though it should work through the Z----Logitech Speakers.
