What happens when an IMC goes bad? - Page 3

But he is on 1600 ram, so it should not need 1.6v, I can run 1600 at 1.20v all day long...

Plus lack of voltage would cause it to not post or BSOD wouldnt it?
I have never heard of ram not showing in bios or windows due to lack of voltage.. May be wrong tho..
Only issue I have seen with a similar problem comes from people running 6 sticks of ram and 12 - 24GB, I havent seen it much with 3x2GB...

I doesn't bsod, and it does post. It just won't show all 6 gigs on a cold boot. A BIOS reset fixes it, but that would mean resetting the BIOS and redoing my overclock every time I boot.

This is unacceptable for me. I want my computer to have its basic functions working.

It does this on stock settings, as well as overclocked to 4ghz. Doesn't matter. 2 gigs will be missing on a cold start-up, guaranteed. A BIOS reset will fix it every time, guaranteed.

It's causing way more stress than it's worth now. I'd rather start over.

I'm gonna call their technical support and see if they have any suggestions before I do the RMA on the cpu. I really don't want to be without a computer for a few weeks.

All cpu mem controllers are not the same, some are real awesome, some are not, mines not great and i have to use 1.39 QPI/VTT for 1640Mhz mem.

Low QPI/VTT can cause BSOD with following codes:
0x124
0x0A
0xD1
0x9C
0x50

Another common symptom of too low a QPI/VTT volatge is the one we see here...not all mem is recognised correctly.

OP i have heard somebody mention that you have allready spent much time on this and exhauseted all avenues etc,but you have not answered a previously asked question which to me is the critical question.

EXACTLY what do you have you QPI/VTT v set to when this is happening?

Also, even if you have no O/C and everything is at default, sometimes you must still manully enter mem settings to enable your ram to run as advertsied.

EDIT:

Once I get the RMA approved, should I keep the motherboard and wait for the chip to return, and hope it solves the problem?

RMA approved, paid $20 to overnight it, too.

$20 is worth it if it works. Hoping I get a 950 or 960 back, as they don't seem to make the 920 and 930 anymore.

In any case, what else could it possibly be? I'm seriously throwing my arms in the air at this situation.

Besides a faulty IMC (which i'm inclined to agree with you on), have you tried your cpu AND ram in another motherboard at the same time? I ask because your ram isn't on ASUS's QVL list, which means it could have some compatibility issues.

Also, have you made sure the ram is running the correct subtimings? Some bioses don't read the spd/xmp profiles correctly and a timing could be way off. I know my Bloodrage and R3E had trouble with the tRC timing.

I've already swapped the motherboard. My previous board did the exact same thing. Hitting the memok button fixes the issue, but then I have to re-do bios settings every time I boot up. It's an annoyance, but something I may have to live with.

They want to charge me $267 to RMA the cpu, which they refund me when they receive it. I just don't have it now. Basically, I'm at a loss. I have 2 weeks to return this motherboard for a refund if I decide to say screw it and go SB or Thuban.

Sorry if I sound whiny right now. Not sure how I'm coming off. I'm just at my wits end with this thing. My biggest fear is that I RMA the cpu, and the new one has the same issue.
