Are 965 BE's overclock friendly?

How hard is it to get them to about 4GHz on air? I managed to get mine to 3.6GHz on my MB's auto voltage setting, but I haven't really tried further.

Is 4GHz on air reachable for these chips (C3 revision of course)? I kind of need to get to 4GHz to avoid a large bottleneck when CFing my 6870.

20x200 @1.45 should do it.

Mine OCs pretty easily.

Why would they..? They are lower binned than 965s, but are pretty much exactly the same.

You should be able to get 4 ghz on air easily, unless you got unlucky and have a bad 965.

Also, is my MB going to be okay for getting to 4.0GHz? Are the VRM's on my MB decent?

Do I need to touch the RAM and Northbridge at all? Those are both at stock and I don't know the first thing about overclocking them.

Also, my FSB is at 201.1. Should I drop down to 200 so I can get exactly 4.0 with a 20x multiplier?

You should just try 200x20, also you have to touch the NB, because it will get you better gains than overclocking the CPU. Have it around 2600-2800 and your PC will be much faster.

Your board has decent VRMs.

You'll probably need your nb at 2.6ghz+ to get things stable around 4ghz and up. To do this you'll have to up your fsb which will oc your ram so just keep it in check.. you may need to bump up the cpu-nb voltage if you keep your ram at the same multi as stock.

EDIT:

I understand they're the same...
I'm just going by the general consensus.

I got my 965 up too 3.8Ghz and could never get it any higher regardless of NB etc.

Of course it will depend on your motherboard.
But yes. I've had this PII 945 up to 4.2GHz. 4GHz stable.
