XFX HD 5770 Odd Frame Refresh Problem

Thread Starter

I'm having a weird frame refresh problem on my ATI Radeon HD 5770.

My system has been listed in my profile. I'm new, so please bear with me. This is not so much about overclocking or gaming, but there really aren't many other options, and I've already tried the manufacturers.

This happens on either monitor whether when turned on singly or when both are turned on at the same time at computer boot. I suspect this problem is happening only with certain x86/32-bit apps that are working in compatibility mode. Frames with button bars do not refresh properly. (See video above.)

To test with your ATI Radeon Card on Windows Pro 64-bit, pull up from Start and type 'format' in the search box. Click 'Create and format hard disk partitions'. Resize the window larger. Do you see the same frame refresh artifacts and junk I'm seeing? (You can close the window now.)

I want to know if I should return my card or if this is a normal artifact of the ATI Radeon HD 5770 that I'll just have to deal with for some x86/32-bit programs. XFX and AMD have both been cryptic and unhelpful with their responses, pointing fingers at each other for further queries. Would it make any difference if I went with another ATI Radeon card or if I went with an NVidia card?

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

My 5770 is all clear. Maybe you could try a different driver version. I'm using old old 10.11 drivers I think.

Old catalyst removal section from this guide will help getting new drivers up cause a lot of stuff will linger if you do a simple uninstall. http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_3.html

Thanks for your reply.
What version of .Net are you using?

I wonder if it's a sandybridge thing... ?

Cuad,

Again thanks for your reply.

I used the uninstall directions found here with great success. (Provided by XFX, the card maker.)

I now have an identical setup to yours - using CCC 10.11. The artifacts are still there. I also saw the same artifacts with the Window VGA drivers, before installing CCC 10.11. The only real difference between your system and my system appears to be that yours is i7 930 and mine is i5 2500K (sandybridge).

Again, it makes me wonder if this is a sandybridge issue...

I installed 10-11_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe,
not 10-11_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_enu.exe.

Since there appears to be no differences, artifact-wise, I'm thinking of reinstalling the 11.5.

At this point, I don't know for sure if returning the card and trying a different graphics card would make a difference. In all other respects, the card behaves correctly.

If you or others have further suggestions or ideas, I'm open.
