New i5 2500k OC build

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm planning to build a new PC with an i5 2500k CPU. The only doubts are reserved for the heatsink because initially I was thinking of getting a cheap A50 but I heard that sometimes it isn't enough for good overclocking. Anyways I was thinking to overclock @4.5GHz and I need to also consider the ambient temperature... It gets very hot here in the summer so I looking for a decent heatsink... Something not over 40-50€, like the Scythe Mugen 2 perhaps?

Anyway here's my build:
  • Intel Core i5-2500K
  • Scythe Mugen 2
  • Arctic Cooling Fusion 550R 550 W
  • MSI P67A-GD53 B3
  • DDR3 G.Skill Ripjaws-X 1600MHz 4GB (2x2GB) CL9 1.5v
  • XFX Radeon HD 6870
  • Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB 3.5" 7200rpm
  • Thermaltake V3 Black Edition
  • Samsung SH-S222AB 22x DVD/CD

Where are you purchasing your components? Can you provide links or prices?

You can probably do better on the PSU, and a 1TB F3 costs almost the same as 500GB in the states.

Im going to assume he is going to be purchasing the items in Italy.

I am building a very similar rig right now, the i5 comes tomorrow. (see sig) I asked around a bit and many people said the 212+ would work well for 4.5GHz. I live in Florida so it gets hot here too.

Edit: Heres a similar thread to show you some thoughts between the Mugen 2 and 212+

I would look into the asrock p67 extreme4, that mobo is a very good budget mobo and i would pick it over the msi mobo any day. As for the psu, askremtok has said, i would recommend either an antec, corsair, XFX or seasonic brand.

I'm buying this from an italian site. I can tell you the price of all that, it's €617,60 or $886.10.

The problem is that I can't get the 212+ on this site where I'm getting my PC from... This is the list of the ones I can get: http://www.e-key.it/catalog.aspx?id=1103

I was showing that the Mugen 2 is comparable to the 212+ so it should be fine with that. As far as PSU goes 550w is fine, and It gives you a little room to upgrade in the future. As I think 2x 6870s only use like 415w.

OK then the Mugen 2 will be fine... The only problem is will it fit on the MSI P67A-GD53 mobo with two 2x2 RAM? Does anyone know?
