My "modest" build : i7-2600k/580SLI/HAF-X/NH-D14 - Page 6

I noticed an increase of the temperature of GPU1 ( from 68-69°C to 74°C ), but the GPU2 doesn't go above 67-68°C, just like when I was on a single GPU. I got to modify the graphics card shroud so it can channel the airflow better between the cards ( a small plate with holes for the power pins ), and maybe replace the noctua fan with a better one ( I'm waiting on an order for some Gentle Typhoon AP-15 1850 rpms ). I'll test the overall temperature tonight when the ambiant will drop and matches the one I have on my previous tests.

About the TIM application, I use the pea size technic, well it was a lot smaller than a pea actually smile.gif more like a 4-5mm half sphere. Then I put a little pressure on it with the D14 and twisted to spread the compound around, then checked to see the coverage and it was good at first try.

Take off the two thumbscrews located on the HDD cage then pull out the shroud, very easy to do. Putting it back, on the other hand can be a bit challenging.

Would love to see a chart of the temps of all your parts again just to see the effect of the extra 580. Hopefully its addition wont add any unwanted hot air pockets in your case but from looking at your configuration i doubt thatll be a problem. Only places where it can happen are in the bottom left and in the top right corner where the optical drives sit, i think. Not the best at air flow physics. Thing is i don't think its a problem because where those possible areas of hot air can be theres also a vent allowing the hot air to be pushed out by all the cold air being pulled into the case

In my case, puling the shroud out is simply not enuff :S Something is jamming it.

So I did the test tonight with roughly the same ambiant temperature as my previous tests ( about 1-2°C less tonight ) and I got those results ....
5900539966_eae3e5bbc3_o.jpg
Hmm, ok, WTH seriously ??! wth.gif

As a reminder, I had those before adding the second card :
5859061845_d5a2490f13_o.jpg

I'm at loss of words here... Except the CPU temp ( which was oscillating between 39 and 40°C ), everything else is the same or got a LOWER temperature WITH the second card... confused.gif
Well , I won't complain, but I really really would like to understand what is going on.

Speculations:
_Maybe the top intake airflow bounces back on the second card
_Maybe the added compartment acts like a funnel
_Maybe the second card allows more air to be deflected toward the top ( from the front 230mm )
_Maybe a wizard casted a spell on my computer to drive me crazy kookoo.gif

Now if someone could explain me that strange phenomenom, I'll be really happy biggrin.gif
Ehume, if you read this please chime in applaud.gif

Pics soon. I didn't install it, had it built xD I really needed the computer fast back then, so I had it built. Otherwise, I would have built it myself.

Judging from your first pic, the old setup had your sound card blocking the air intake for one of the vidcard fans:

5657324644_ca6850bdc5_b.jpg
Yes, I know you switched cases since then, but if you had the same mb arrangement, you were still blocking half of the vidcard's air intake.

In the second pic, the soundcard is moved up to Slot 1:

5896289791_8d8c509f68_b.jpg

You speak of an "added compartment." Do you mean the space between the two vidcards?

I don't think the top intake bounces off a vidcard. But do you have a side panel intake fan? And there seems to be a shroud on the left side of the HD cage.

Thank you for the input Ehume but it was like that :
5815337229_2b20133839_b.jpg

With the sound card above the graphics card.
I have a 200mm fan on the side panel, yes. And the shroud on the left side of the HHD cage is the graphics card shroud holding a 120mm fan inside.
I removed the SATA Hotplug plate also ( it was blocking the airflow in the two lower 5.25" bays ). Maybe it has something to do with the lower temperature on the components around the cpu cooler.
