Suggestions for First Low Budget Build

Thread Starter
My Pop and his wife (and no it is not my Nan) just asked me to build them a computer to replace there piece of poop. I'm really excited because I have never built a computer on a low budget.

The computer doesn't have to go mach3 just has to have decent speed

They mostly just check emails and browse the internet, so a 4TB hdd is not necessary

He also did not look me in the eyes and plead for Crysis II to run at 70 FPS so cheap/unboard graphics will do

As for the actual budget: He didn't really give me a number but I would like to keep it low without sacraficing too much performance to make him happy

Any hardware suggestions, or comments would be greatly appreciated becasue low budgets are new territory

Thanks! FTW nt

Core i3 with a cheapy board and like a 160gig drive. 2gb of ram and a generic case. Probably get winXP for cheap somewhere... and look for combo deals with the CPU/mobo/ram.

I'd suggest either a Sandy Bridge i3 or a dual core i5 for basic computing needs and an H67 chipset motherboard so you can use the integrated Intel graphics.

Pretty much a Spinpoint F3 if you want around a TB of space, because anything of smaller capacity is just overpriced.

Then just your usual 2x2GB DDR3 RAM kit, and you're good to go.

Yes I really like this idea. Would you suggest the i3 or the dual core i5?

i3 is dual core. You won't need an i5, i3 will be more than enough.
