Car Audio Newbie Questions

Thread Starter
1. I remember when I installed my head unit(Some sony unit) that it was a pain in the ass to connect the radio antenna to the back of it. Is that a standard cable that I can find an extender for? I'd imagine so because it fit both of my head units.

Note: I Googled for this but would like someone to recommend me a cable, I want to be completely sure that I get the right thing.

2. Do amps need good ventilation? My trunk doesn't have any non-carpeted area for me to mount it to my knowledge.

3. I was considering getting this set: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882748058

Would it be a simple enough installation for a beginner?

From what I've seen I have to:
-Drill a hole in the firewall
-Run the +/- and power cables from the trunk to the battery/headunit
-Mount the amp so it has sufficient air flow?(Not sure about this)

1)choose one that fits. shouldn't be too hard http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_i...-adaptors.html

2) amps do get hot when they get pushed and are running hard. ventilation is a good idea but from what i understand most people with cars mount them to the back of the back seat or on the box.

3) id ont know how to say this but that newegg link would work but highly not recommended. you may like it at first but sooner or later your going to want something better. there is a THREAD that some one else went with a all in one kit and he now is going to be redoing it with better parts.

as for the wiring you want to run the + power from the bat to the amp where ever its located, ether threw the firewall or along the frame. the wire from the head unit is the signal wire that tells the amp when to turn on and off along with the RCA cables that send the audio signal. as for the bear mettle that is about grounding the amp. its best to keep that wire less the 2ft and on the frame.

my recommendation would be to find a decent 12" sub and make your own box to specs (or find some one that can) and a reputable amp.

i would also tell you go learking at some car audio websites before you make any purchases. i lately visit here http://www.caraudio.com/forums/ i warn you that this site is not PG, more it the R as its not highly moderated.

I agree completely with bob. Don't buy any subwoofers off newegg. We can always find MUCH better setups. A single Type R 12 with a good amp, and the right box would hit 1000 times harder than that cheapo MTX garbage....and be cheaper.

And don't forget there's also the Car Audio club in my sig.
