Videos do not play in surround sound, only AC3/WMA music is in surround sound

Ok, I CANNOT figure out what the problem is. I have a Rocketfish 5.1 soundcard connected through the analog outputs to a Sony reviver. OK.

I can play AC3/WMA encoded files in surround sound. I have verified that my soundcard is connected correctly. the audio control panel can play test tones to each of the 5.1 channels perfectly. However when I play a surround sound video in youtube or this one here, it doesn't work.

Playing the video, I get the separate front left/right but nothing comes out of the center or rears and this is really driving me nuts. The rear speakers are playing out the front left/right as mono.

Do I need some special software encoder/decoder or something that someone is not telling me about??

I'm fairly sure (don't quote me on this) YouTube only supports 2.1 audio... I may be wrong though. Try a Blu-ray movie or something.

What Ipwn said. Youtube only supports 2.1 not 5.1 surround. What you need to do is try a game that supports surround and/or a movie with a 5.1 track. Or you could search the interwebs for a proper surround test (that is not on youtube, etc.).

So we've all just been trolled?

Alright, I tried another test

http://www.wooferbasstest.com/download/test-tool-ac3-dolby-digital-5-1ch-sound-test

At first it was not working on GOM player , then I tried VLC player it worked perfectly. So I realized I had to go into the settings and tell it to play through the 5.1 channels.

I guess the problem has been solved. BTW what a fool for posting that video on YouTube, and everybody was thinking they were having troubles. I believe only the HD YouTube videos support surround.
