Is there some guide on OCN or somewhere else for unlocking it?

Need to be careful and look into this a LOT deeper. I'd say it's safe to unlock the card provided you have the earlier reference model of the card. These came with a dual BIOS switch (in case you mess up, you can flash back to original) and the fan was at the end of the card as opposed to the newer ones which are in the middle.

If you got a 2GB Radeon 6950 with the fan in the middle and no dual-BIOS switch, I wouldn't even bother attempting to unlock it. There's a strong chance now that these newer cards won't allow the unlock and you risk bricking the card should it not work.

If you happened to get the reference design, which is a hard find these days for a reasonable price new, I suggest this guide which I also used:

This is the 6950 Flash+OC method, which I find safer...as opposed to the 6970 BIOS flash method, which I refuse to do myself.

Reality is though, the performance bump is about 5-10%
