No difference (SATAII vs SATAIII) for RAID setup with WD Blacks?

No difference between a WD1001FAES and a WD1001FAEX right? Both are caviar black 1TB 64MB cache, just the FAEX is SATAIII and FAES is SATAII. Doesn't matter because neither drive would trip SATAII, and my mobo is only SATAII. Should it perform around the same?

I want to run the two in a RAID0 for improved video editing. They're just going to store whatever files and a few other things, no OS or actual important stuff. Backups will be kept regularly. I have the opportunity to get the FAES on Craigslist for just $20

So sir, no difference at all. No hard drive on the market today has the capacity of filling all of SATA III's bandwidth. It's a marketing thing as far as I'm concerned.

Since your motherboard doesn't support SATA III you might as well get the SATA II drives and save yourself some money. Getting SATA III drives for a SATA II motherboard won't improve anything.

I know. I want to get into the details though... what is there on the HDDs, aside from SATA type, that is different? i.e. different platters, different controller, anything that might affect the setup as a RAID, because they're slightly different drives. Would it not matter?

I already have the SATAIII drive (former HTPC drive, now replaced with 2TB green), I'm going to get the second SATAII drive for $20 (Craigslist) to fill in. My existing third WD Caviar Black (older FALS 1TB model) stays as-is.
[ignore the sig, I was originally going to take another Seagate and turn it into my data drive, turning both my WD 1TB drives existing into a RAID0 - however due to existing data being on one of the WD 1TB being used, I haven't gotten around to setting it up]

There should be no differance between the SATA2 & SATA3 drives. One thing you may consider is TLER is not supported on WD black, only on their RE4 drives. All this does for you if give the drive more time to correct any errors before it throws the drive out of the RAID array. You may never have this problem with the blacks and since you'll always back them up (which is a MUST with any RAID0 array) no big deal if they do.
