Help Picking a GTX580 to Upgrade to

I am from South Africa and have recently come across a method to ship hardware cheap from .us. I currently have a HIS 5870 1050/1300 with a Arctic Accelero Plus Cooler. The card runs damn cool(30 idle, 42 max load) and gives me great stable performance. However I just hate ATi drivers, this is the first ATi card I've owned, while the hardware is good the software is just pathetic.

I was wondering which 580 I should get and what would be the cheapest place in .us to get it from? I have a Corsair HX650 PSU, I heard a lot of guys buying 1000watt PSU's for their 580s but some people I have asked said that's beyond overkill. On my 5870 I've not seen my total wattage go above 405 for the whole PC. One last thing, would the 580 fit into a Coolermaster CM690II case?

Well it really doesnt matter what the brand is, so long as you dont go to some REALLY off brand or anything. I stick with ASUS and EVGA for my cards. A 650W PSU should be enough, but just for one card.

Your case is plenty big for that card so do not worry!

Well from just looking around there seems to be quite a few OC'd versions also ones that run with better coolers. However my accelero xtreme plus came the the attachments to fit the 580 so I'm guessing it will trump pretty much all the special cooler versions, but I'm not sure.

If you already have a nice cooler than just buy the standard one and overclock it yourself! It is really easy to overclock a GPU.

Just use this to overclock a GPU and you should be golden if you already have an aftermarket cooler.

Mine is overclocked a little and it is still on the stock cooler, this card runs pretty cool to start with so you should not have much to worry about!

The SPARKLE Calibre Series X580 has a Arctic cooler already installed, it also looks like it has an extra cooling bit on the RAM, unlike the VR004 which are these crap heatsink pieces. So it might be worth it, although Sparkle really isn't a known brand.

The reason I'm looking into the ones with aftermarket coolers is that they seem to be the same price as the reference ones (eg Twin Frozr II)

You can buy cheap from Newegg or Amazon here in the US.

Good versions of the 580 are ASUS DCII, MSI Twin Frozr series, anything with an Accelero Xtreme Plus on it..basically good aftermarket cooling.

MSI 580 Lightning. That thing is a beast. Asus DCII is fine as well, but the lightning is the best one out there atm, I believe, with one exception: the Lightning extreme edition, but I think that one looks wonky.

The GTX 580 Lightning from MSI is the best 580 you can buy right now. Unfortunately it is 1mm too long for your case...

The Lightening Extreme seems to run well 'extremely' cool
Judging from this review,
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/gra...ition-review/7

Seems to be $100 more then the Twin Frozr II
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...reme%20Edition

I guess you'd only see the benefit of that extra RAM when playing extreme res, my screen only goes to 1920x1080

Where are you reading that?

CM 690 II: 214.5 x 496 x 528.8 mm

MSI 580 Lightning: 305x127x45mm

Looks to me like it would fit with room to spare...
