Need advice for 1440p monitor

post #1 of 22

Hi, guys.
So I have budget around of $500.
which GPU should I buy for the monitor I have right now below me?
I use the 570 but the VRAM is kind of bottleneck the resolution.

Should I go with the GTX 580 with the 1.5GB of VRAM or pick the HD 6970 with the 2GB of VRAM?

FYI : not using it too extreme on the gaming and on my country the gtx 580 is around $480 so if you suggest taking the 3GB version of gtx 580 is out of question

It goes like this:
6850 [5870] -> 560 [470] -> 6950 [5970] -> 570 [480] -> 6970 -> 580 -> 6990 / 590

Yep, that's about right. But for higher resolution I'm sure there's a performance difference for higher memory cards... so would 6970>580? Kinda the reason why I chose it instead of nvidia.

You'd probably want more than 1.5GB of RAM, but the 580 is an overall better card than the 6970, as others have said. Grab a 3GB 580 when you can, as it will allow you to continue to max out games at that resolution for a while.

If the price of the 3GB 580 is over budget go for the 6970 Lightning. 2GB of VRAM should be sufficient.
