Like someone else said, I'm very satisfied with Windows 7, and I'll probably skip Windows 8. So far it's only looked awful, however it does look like it's being made for tablets rather than actual PCs. Hopefully there's more "normal" looking GUI photos that surface.

So... It's a fact. Skip Windows 1 year and go for the next. Sweet.

Windows XP > Windows 7 > Windows 9

I was actually horrified when I saw this as well. As soon as the words Javascript and HTML5 come into the realm of operating system, we have a problem. I'm sorry, but web pages are not applications. The experience isn't the same, the efficiency isn't the same. It doesn't work right.

windows 8 seems good and all that. im thinking of staying with 7 though. not to say i wont try out the release candidate though.

but why change something that already working great?
windows 7 makes me happy, i really doubt what windows 8 will offer will make we wanna try it. I'm just glad we got rid of Vista.

They're just employing HTML/JS for their widget platform you see in the video and not for full application development. And I'm guessing most widgets will have info from the internet so I think it completely makes sense. Windows 8 is also multi-platform targeted i.e. desktops laptops and tablets. Sure they're playing catch up to Apple but who isn't? Everyone and their dog is coming out with a tablet now. It's a new market and it makes sense for them to target it (again.. they did this years ago before the market was ready)
Full power desktop apps/games will still be written in languages like .NET and C++.

Also, there will be new versions of Windows coming out until MS goes out of business (guess who long that will be). They really are just trying to progress and improve.

Now that's not to say Microsoft might be making some radical changes in how the OS integrates with the Internet, especially on tablets, but there is some serious overreaction here. Microsoft has plenty of business and professional applications and users, it isn't like they're going to just abandon the millions of school, business, and desktop PCs their OS is used on just to support tablets in a special way. I predict that Windows 8 will be completely backwards compatible with Windows 7, and won't be radically different for desktop computers.
This. Microsoft isn't going to turn around and drop years of .NET and C++ API developments and screw over everyone who has worked with them so far. I expect the integration with HTML5 is just part of their adoption plan as we've seen with IE10. Nothing surprising or worth overreacting about.
