DX11 overrated? Best DX 10 card?

Hey Guys,

I can get a good deal on a GTX 275, are they better then my current card? Also Would it be worth upgrading to maybe a gtx 460 or 470?

I am unsure on what 'Good' Cards are around, If I was to have a budget it would be around £150 to £170 sort of price range.

Any help is appriciated.

Thanks

dx11 to me isnt a huge thing for me, when i play games im more focused on the gameplay than the visuals and to me thers not a big difference. A gtx 275 to gtx 460 is definately a sidegrade, a 470 would be nice but with 170 pounds maybe u cud fit in a 480 with some bargain hunting.

Hi,
I think your missing a vital bit of info.
The dx11 cards that are out now are much much faster than a few generations old 275, you have a nice budget for a gtx460 or a 6850/70.
Even if you did'nt use dx11 these newer cards are still so much faster than the 275.

For 170 pounds, I'd try to seek out a decent GTX 560 Ti; overclocked they can perform around 480 clocks and they don't draw near as much power or run nearly as hot.

gtx 275 is a faster card then the 5770 but not worth paying for imo

if you REALLY have to upg make it something considerable like 6950 or 560 ti or a 470

DX11 is just a superset of DX10, meaning that if you only have a DX10 card, and a supporting game, you can have most DX11 features with a DX10 card. Look at BF3
post #8 of 51
DX11 is definitely worth it in certain games. Metro 2033 is the best example, its stunning in DX11. Even Dragon Age 2 for example DX11 textures look noticeably better to me. Problem is there isn't that many games that support it at present, and I have a sneaky feeling it won't be a big deal until the consoles refresh as many cross platform games (i.e. majority these days, sigh) don't bother with DX11.

For your budget you can definitely find something that will run DX11 decently, maybe not 60fps with 8xAA lol. I cannot believe you are considering a card that is like 2-3 generations behind (GTX275), at least scrimp up for a nvidia GTX560 or ATI 6870.

Not sure about the DX10--> DX11 subset abilities info linkin93 mentioned, I just turn on DX11 lol.

OT but linkin93 I couldn't disagree more with your sig LOL. I have a ton of fun with Crysis 2 and it looked good, I did miss the sandbox and open environments (and gfx wh0ring capabilities) of 1, but it was a much tighter sequel that I was happy to swallow the console concessions for because at the end of the day, it was a really fun game.

A 5770 is between 4850 and 4870. So a 275 will be faster. 5850 has about the same performance as a 275 on DX10 games.

Ohh ok thanks for the speedy replies, Well the GTX 275 was £50. I only have one DX11 game thats AvP.

and the only game that I am buying this year that would require serious horsepower would be BFBC3.

I am sick to death of AMD and the drivers so i am going with Nvidia now.

What decent cards for £170 could I get that plays all my games ( AvP, fallout 3 ) a few other games that are around year old.
