and the only game that I am buying this year that would require serious horsepower would be BFBC3.

I am sick to death of AMD and the drivers so i am going with Nvidia now.

What decent cards for £170 could I get that plays all my games ( AvP, fallout 3 ) a few other games that are around year old.
Are the 2nd gen DX 11 cards much more....stable then the first?

5850 outperformed a GTX285 in a majority of DX10 titles with release drivers.

As for the Title Dx11 is overrated, but current generation cards are much faster than GTX2XX and HD4XX cards.

Hmm Bit costly. I'll see what I could do.

Will there be any bottle neck with my current CPU?

I have it O/C'd to 2.8ghz

Yeah, there will be abit of a bottleneck, see if you can reach 3.4Ghz, thats what I ran my old Q6600 at.

The gtx275 isn't that much faster than a 5770. It is barely an upgrade and not worth it.

If you are going to spend money a new card you might as well make a real, significant upgrade, not gain an extra 10 or 15%.

Should probably OC it a bit more, but the bottleneck won't be that noticeable on most games.

What resolution are you gaming at? If you are a 19" 1440x900 res screen then it doesn't even matter, just stick with the 5770. If you are gaming at a higher resolution than sure, look at an upgrade.

Are you have unsatisfactory performance in your games? Or do you just have the upgrade bug? In any case if you are managing good frame rates in your games then wait for 28nm cards to come out the end of the year.

I am running at 1920x1080p.

Erm some times there is a lot of stuttering and it really angers me. I mean in BF2 just about the get a kill, then an explosion and then I am dead as my game lagged.

Don't worry I have a decent connection so no internet spikes. Ive checked
