i5 2500K - is it ok to push it further?

I'm still fairly new to OC-ing and my last tried in OC-ing was like a year back. They say pictures tell a thousand words...



Currently:
- i5 2500K at 4.7GHz
- CPU-Z reported Core Voltage about 2.80V on load
- Temp seems OK at about 70C (one core went up to 76C once but came down quickly to about 70C)
- Real Temp shows 1.3711VID
- I'm using offset value for BIOS Vcore setting
- Passing 3hrs mark for Prime95 blend test

Do I look at CPU-Z core voltage for indication on whether I hit 1.4V or look at the BIOS Vcore? My target is to OC till I hit 1.4V for Vcore. I'm will wait till blend test successfully hit pass 5hrs before going for 4.8GHz if allowed.

OC till ur core reaches a max of 80C an ur ok.

I have forgot to add the Mobo I'm using. It is asrock z68 extreme 4 if it help.

So I take it you are telling me that look at CPU-Z load core voltage as how much vcore is hit?

Great OC and voltage.
Its upto you but i run mine at 4.7ghz and its very quick at encoding stuff(only reason i have it so high) in games it wont make any difference.
at 5ghz it will only be 30-45sec quicker at encoding video & audio but if you can do it at say around 1.38v - 1.39v then you would be able to use it 24/7.
i would recommend using power saving so it drops to 1.6ghz at idle will definitely make the CPU live longer.
cpu-z 1.57.1 will give you a good voltage reading which will also change on the fly if you have power saving on, also you could try HW monitor to confirm voltages

I would actually lower it.

76C is a bit hot for me. I wouldn't even recommend running IBT AVX with those temps.

You ok, where you at, if you want to push it further, you need to get water cooling.

You can push it 5ghz but I think you are good where you at 24/7.

I think I will be settling my i5 at 4.8GHz. Gonna try run prime95 blend test for 12hrs, hopefully I don't encounter bsod/error along the way.

Pushing for 4.9GHz will require me to go over my max intended core voltage of 1.4V which I'm not comfortable with. Maybe I will be able to get higher with LLC enabled but...

As for the temperature, I'm comfortable with anything below 80C. I guess I'm used to seeing 70+C on my previous OC-ed Q8200 system.

I'm having problem trying to stabilize my 2500k at 4.8GHz and I'm beginning to think I should try using LLC... Currently my LLC is set to level 5 which is disabled, I believe, for Asrock Z68 Extreme 4.

I'm only able to get Prime95 blend test going for about 3-4 hrs with offset +0.060V before BSOD with error code 124 (which I read that it means insufficient vcore from somewhere in OCN) happen. Did a short 20 runs of IBT and passed it without problem though. I'm increasing my offset by another 0.005V and see if it works.

One question: What happen to the days where people make a big hoo-ha about using LLC can cause spikes out of specification that can kill CPU?

Seems to me like no one is bothered about it anymore and almost everyone is using LLC (with some even setting it to the highest level ) to do overclocking.

You need a higher Vcore to be stable. Simple as that. Run a higher LLC.

The days when people feared LLC is over because of one simple reason - Time. Years have passed, and people learned that LLC wasn't as dangerous as they first feared.
