Help!! Crossfire Problem!

Thread Starter
Hi,
I'm on Asus Maximus Formula SE which has the Intel X38 northbridge.
I'm trying to get my 4870X2 to crossfire with 4870,
but when i press the CrossfireX enable and apply it (on the Catalyst Control Center), the computer crash right away.
Why does this happen and what can i do?

Do both cards function normally if alone?
Do you have a CF bridge properly installed?
They must have 2 connectors for the CF bridge each, try switching them.
Try using 2 CF bridges.
Try switching the PCI-E slots.
Are all 6-pin PSU connectors plugged?

Maybe your PSU can't handle it. 4870x2 + 4870 have total power consumption of more than 500W. +the rest of the system, you might be running out of PSU

Hey, thanks for the reply.

For some reason, when they crash, i remove the 4870 and reboot. The system doesn't reboot anymore, the PC cannot detect my windows.

Hmmmmmmmm, are you absolutely positive that your cards are causing the issue? I would literally rebuild your entire computer. Make sure everything is seated correctly. As well as making sure your power supply is enough to handle it. Usually older components are power hungry and the AMPS and Watts are enough. I would also try using two bridges like suggested earlier.

Hope you get it figured out! Post is you do.

Hi, I would,

but isn't there only 1 bridge slot on the 4870X2 ....?
maybe i'll just run one 4870X2 and leave my old 4870 sitting on the shelf
