I can afford both sometime soon. I am thinking the Sandy wins here. I am looking to get the most horsepower for my cash, I am spending ~$450 on this. My goal is to ELIMINATE ALL BOTTLENECKS.

Intel Core i5 2500k and EVGA P67 SLI.

Intel Core i7 930 and EVGA X58 FTW3.

Despite the i7's power, I lean to the Sandy b/c it scores higher in benchies and has newer tech in it, runs colder and such. 32nm i7 that OCs nice is tempting though.

I say i7 2500k for Gaming and only go with i7 930 if you're gonna edit a lot of video's etc (things that needs the extra 4 threads)

That's why I think I want the i7, more powerful, if you think bout it.

Problem is the 2500k is scoring higher in 3d Mark Vantage and other benchies, might have to just go with the new stuff.

I vote for 2500k. Overclocks better and much better in gaming!

Tbh with Sandy Bridge I would be more worried about your GPU bottlenecking the CPU.

I fail to see the problem here. Unless your 100% of the time using an 8 threaded application, 2500k is the way to go imo. There were also alot of mediocre batches of 930s on the market that had trouble with 4.0

2500Ks PCi-E controller allows it to score higher, in 3d sandyb ridge is stronger for sure. Clock for clock against a bloomfioeld not that much.

No-brainer. Even with HT the i7 won't outperform SB by much in a best-case scenario once they're both at their max OCs and in a worst-case scenario (98% of games) SB should have a sizeable advantage.

Also, good luck folding on the CPU, then folding on the GPU and not bottlenecking your rig doing either task. You need to understand that bottlenecks are dependant on what software you're running and it's impossible to remove them from your system because something will always limit the performance of something else in a particular application.
