Sockett 775 -> 1366

I converted a Apogee GT 775 socket water block to my 920 via home made bracket. Is their any difference in the structure of socket 775 compared to 1366 or will it be fine IE in its ability to cool.

The LGA 1366 CPU (2.95 sqinch) is a bit bigger than sk775 (2.16 sqinch). The thing is probably the contact area of the GT is larger than sk 775's surface, but I would check the thermal paste imprint if it's big enough to cover the whole (or most of) sk 1366 CPU.
Maybe it's not mandatory to cover it 100% (though some may scream upon reading this) because the IHS can funnel the heat coming from the edges of the CPU towards the cooled inside regions. Likely the GT can dissipate the 130W of heat of a sk 1366, but the first tests should be made @ stock speed. This way you can test with the CPU below 130W if all cores are cooled properly and if the HS is enough so you can push further.

Ok i will try this, the surface off the 775 block covers it completely but i still get high reading after reseating 3 times the paste imprint is perfect but it seems the block does not dissipate it quick enough even on a fresh loop clean.

Here is an old GT test Vapor ran that'll give you an idea of possible improvements by changing out the block.



I get pretty close to that stacking my two roundups together too...around 7 or so degrees improvement with the latest blocks is possible with really high overclocks.

Also 775 Quad cores had 2 internal physical cores under the IHS, so waterblocks for them 'divided' the water across them for better cooling. 1366 does not have this, so it may in fact be going AROUND the CPU
