GTX570 or GTX 580? Is the 580 worth the 100+ premium - Page 3

so is the 100+ justifiable? i'd say more or less

Buyer's remorse much? Nah I'm just kidding.

I can't wait to get my 580 either!

That's plenty fair, it's a comparison of one GPU's potential value vs. the baseline performance of a more expensive unit. It's plenty worth mentioning that some FX 5900XTs could get near 5900U speeds, some 6800GTs could get to a stone's throw from 6800Us, 7900GS-7900GT, 8800GT-8800U, GTX 275-280 etc. etc. ad nauseum. When a lesser GPU can attain a level of performance of that of a more expensive GPU, that often makes for a satisfied customer. ... And yes, overclock those higher-end GPUs and they'll step further away, but that's not really the point.

570 GTX with more than 840 core clock is same or a little higher than a 580 stock.
I would recommend to take one of these models of the 570 gtx :
msi Twin frozr II
msi Twin frozr II/OC
msi Twin Frozr III Power Edition
They are capable for 900 core clock maybe more with good temps lower than 70C

I think you need a bit more than 840MHz on the GTX570 to be equal with a GTX580 @ 772Mhz (stock) which has more shaders and ROP's (512/48 vs 480/40),also running 384bit memory interface (vs 320bit on GTX570)..

But lets say someone has a GTX 570, they overclock it to GTX580 performance. The person with the 580 could just as easily overclock his card to once again create a similar gap between performance, given the gap maybe smaller making the 570 a better bang for your buck, but otherwise no one would buy a GTX580 at MSRP. It seems simple enough to me, but maybe I'm missing something more complex here..

CHEERS..
Seconded. Even at 860 core, it reaches 580 performance, but not across the board. Damn close though, and IMO makes up for the $ gap in price.
